Foley man killed in car crash near Ponchatoula, Louisiana

PONCHATOULA, Louisiana —A Foley man was killed Tuesday after his vehicle left a roadway in Louisiana, overturned and became partially submerged in water while still upside-down.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L in Mandeville received a call from a motorist informing Troopers of a submerged vehicle on US 51 south of Ponchatoula.

Troopers responded to the scene and discovered a partially submerged Chevrolet Tahoe in the water. On retrieving the vehicle from the water, Troopers discovered the remains of the driver, 25 year-old Ryan Keith Guidroz of Foley, within the vehicle.

Troopers are still investigating when the crash occurred. Crash scene investigators were able to determine Guidroz was traveling southbound on US 51. For reasons still under investigation, Guidroz’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, overturned and became partially submerged upside down.

Guidroz was not restrained at the time of the crash.

Blood samples were obtained and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, simply putting on a seatbelt could be the difference between life and death.

The Louisiana State Police are asking every motorist to do help make the the roadways safer by never driving impaired, always putting on a seatbelt and eliminating distractions. Aside from being the law, these tips could save your life or the life of a passing motorist.
