Honorable John Koniar, two-term City of Foley mayor, announces his candidacy for re-election as mayor of Foley. Koniar will be seeking his third term as mayor of the City of Foley.

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Foley since 2006 and I look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve this community,” said Mayor Koniar. “We have had positive economic growth, created jobs and improved citizen services. I am proud of what we have accomplished.”

Foley has in fact had quite a bit to be proud of, from the opening of several new retail centers such as Hobby Lobby, Academy Sports and Big Lots to name a few. Recently, the city completed Centennial Tower in Heritage Park, the new Fire Station #3 at GlenLakes and the Foley Dog Park which is just off the Rose Trail.

“The City of Foley continues to accomplish great things,” said Koniar, “and these accomplishments are only achieved through the hard work of city employees and community leaders. We have several other exciting new projects and improvements to city services that will continue to make the City of Foley a leader locally and in the region. I look forward to working on these as we move Foley forward in the next four years.”

Koniar has served as mayor of Foley since 2006 and previously served as mayor pro-tem from 1996 to 2006. Prior to that, Koniar was a Foley councilman from 1980 to 2006, haven given over 35 years of service to the City of Foley. “I am immensely proud of our city, its leaders, employees and our citizens; our future is extremely bright and I ask that you allow me the honor and privilege continue to lead and make Foley the best it can be” Koniar says.

Mayor Koniar and his wife Linda have been residents of the city of Foley for over 45 years; they have 3 children and 6 grandchildren and will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in July. A campaign kick-off event will be held Wednesday, April 13, from 6-8pm at Wolf-Bay Lodge in Foley.
