Foley Methodist schedules Adult Health Fair

FOLEY, Ala. — The Third Annual Adult Heath Fair of the Foley United Methodist Church will be held at the Spirit Center on Saturday, Nov, 3, from 8 a.m.-noon. The church is located at 910 North Pine Street.

South Baldwin Regional Medical Center (SBRMC) will conduct a cholesterol lipid test to be analyzed at their lab, with results to be mailed to patients. All people wishing to have this test done have to be NPO from midnight, and the testing will only be done from 8-9:30 a.m. Muffins, orange juice and coffee will be provided for anyone having any blood work done.

SBRMC will offer bone density tests and blood pressure checks.

Thomas Hospital of Fairhope will offer PSA tests for prostate cancer. Mercy Medical of Fairhope will offer blood pressure and blood oxygen tests.

Dr. Terry Kurtts will be on hand to offer skin cancer checks. Nurses affiliated with Providence Hospital in Mobile will be here to interpret for Hispanics.

Faulkner State Community College will offer diabetes screenings, and Dr. Henry Spivey will offer urinalysis test. The referral doctor is Jason Harrah.

The Baldwin County Health Department will furnish flu shots to the first 200 adults, from 10 a.m.-noon. The American Red Cross will be in the Spirit Center for those donating blood. Golden Living Center will offer diabetes screenings.

Baldwin Optical and Hearing Aid Co. will be give hearing and eye chart tests. Alicia Farrell of Gulf Coast Family Chiropractic will offer guests information about chiropractic care. Wendell Allen will offer information concerning natural medicines and herbs.

The pharmaceutical company Astra Zeneca will have forms for patients who need low-cost or no-cost medicines.

Lincare Respiratory of Mobile will display some of its Durable Medical Equipment, and will provide wheel chairs for guests for use while at the fair. TLC Home Health will offer information concerning the at-home health care services it provides.

Ecumenical Ministries will offer information about Christmas Sharing and Prescription Assistance/Ozanam Programs.

Charlene Rester of Artesian Springs Health Spa will do five-minute body massages and will offer gifts. Nancy Johnson will offer assistance to those in the WIC program. Teresa Porter with Emergency Preparedness Public Health Area 9 will be in attendance.

The Stephen Ministers of Gulf Shores United Methodist Church will be here to offer the help that people need after the loss of a loved one or other sadness that affects their lives. Their services are free, and are confidential.

Ashley Peyer, All Kids Regional Coordinator for Mobile, Baldwin and Washington counties, will be here offering information on Alabama's Low Cost Healthcare Coverage Program for Children and Teens.

The Interact Club of Foley High School will offer aid throughout the health fair.  

Also provided will be booths for other health care and healthy living items.

The church offered thanks to Cat Country Radio 98.7 for providing advertising this year. Brent Lane of that statio will broadcast live from the fair site during the fair. The Cat Crew will bring a prize wheel to spin for prizes.

King's Balloons provided the huge balloons towering overhead. Children will also be offered diabetes, hearing and eye chart tests and will be given balloons.

First Gulf Bank and Foley's Optimists, Kiwanis, Rotary and Lions clubs have aided in covering the costs of the screenings.
