Mrs. Annie Shoots’ 7th grade English class will begin descriptive writing next week.  Opening Activity- students will use watercolor paints to create a unique forest.  Based on their paintings, students will write an essay describing their unique forest.

In Mrs. Annie Shoots’ Literature classes, the students will begin reading Israel Borowitz’s two act adaptation of A Christmas Carol.  Students will begin a fund-raising event called Project Tiny Tim in which all donations will be given to Foley’s Ecumenical Ministries.  Mrs. Shoot’s students will raise money by bringing in spare change to spread goodwill and love to all mankind!

Ms. Karen Gill’s eighth grade English classes are typing their research paper for publishing during the week of December 3-7. Ms. Gill’s literature students are reading a nonfiction book or a historical fiction book as we compare and contrast two genres: fiction and nonfiction.

The Foley Middle School band students, under the direction of Mr. Steve Pearce, are preparing for the annual Christmas Parade in Downtown Foley.  On December 8th, the band will assemble in the parking lot of the Baldwin Mutual Insurance Building. The band will play carols as the band marches along the parade route.  A medley of Christmas songs includes Adeste Fidelis, Frosty the Snowman, and Jingle Bells.  The parade will terminate in the park adjacent to the Foley Chamber of Commerce.

Ms. Karen Bartl’s social studies classes have created a chart called “The ABCs of Ancient China”. The students found a word that began with each letter of the alphabet and explained how that word related to Ancient China.

Ms. Amanda Cushman’s enrichment class is participating in the Magnificent Marble Maze.  Teams are creating mazes with design points such as ramps, tunnels, and loops.  Student teams will compete next week to see which maze provides the longest trial time.

Next week Mr. Brian Hood’s Daily Living Skills class is going to see a play by Dr. Seuss.  Mr. Hood’s classes will bake brownies and cookies on Tuesday.  So if you smell something good, it probably Mr. Hood’s class activity!
