Foley Police Department, Community Development give June reports

FOLEY, Ala. — Police Chief David Wilson said the Foley Police Department report for June reflected an increase in domestic-related calls.

“It reflects what’s going on in the nation,” he told the mayor and council on Monday while giving FPD’s monthly report. His reference was to the economic recession and the tension and problems it is causing people and families.

FPD reported 34 domestic incidents last month, along with five misdemeanor domestic assaults, and 13 other charges relating to domestic violence. Also, investigators followed up on nine domestic violence cases.

Also up in statistics are motor vehicle accidents. “A busy months for wrecks,” Wilson said of June and the 98 motor vehicle accidents reported. He noted there are spots along Ala. Highway 59 where “cluster wrecks” are occurring.

FPD reported 54 misdemeanor arrests in June and seven felony arrests. Ten felony warrants were served and 101 misdemeanor warrants.

Officers made 15 DUI arrests, wrote 290 traffic citations and 573 warnings. Officers assisted motorists 147 times and conducted 521 close patrols. Officers also answered 182 alarms, made 158 positive citizen contacts, and made 210 official business visits.

FPD Dispatch had a total of 3,799 Computer Aided Dispatch entries in June and dispatched 1,130 calls for service.

Concerning drugs, four misdemeanor marijuana arrests were made and four felony marijuana arrests. There were two drug raids/search warrants executed and six controlled substance arrests and six drug paraphernalia arrests.

FPD’s Criminal Investigation Division received 53 new cases in June, had 15 previously unsolved cases, and solved 30 cases.

Two new sex offender registrations within the city occurred in June, bring the total number of registered sex offenders to 23.

Foley City Jail processed 243 inmates during June. The highest number in jail at one time was 32, the lowest 17.

FPD’s Mounted Unit conducted three patrols and attended two community events.

Animal Services had 108 calls during the month and issued four warnings.

Community Services conducted one strategy meeting and one Neighborhood Watch meeting. Community Outreach and Development had 36 GED participants in three GED classes.

Among crimes reported in June were three residential burglaries; eight felony thefts; 26 misdemeanor thefts; one first-degree assault; two second-degree assault; 13 harassment; nine criminal mischief; six white collar crimes; and one sex crime.

The Community Development Department report for June showed three single-family residences permitted at a total construction valuation of $295,580. The Department issued a total of 63 permits at a total construction valuation of $666,786.

The Environmental/Code Enforcement Department heard 33 citizen complaints, took 37 enforcement actions, and made 20 environmental inspections.

City inspectors performed 172 inspections during June.
