FOLEY — The focus of any library is to become an integral part of its community offering books, DVDs, reference assistance as well as myriad other services that help bind a community together.
The Foley Public Library has taken this mission to heart seeking out innumerable ways to bring the Foley area together with services beyond those that typify the local library.
Exemplifying this commitment is the lineup of events planned by the Foley Public Library for the summer and fall of 2015.
Some of the upcoming activities include:
Snapshot Day Alabama: On Tuesday, August 11 the Foley Public Library will interact with their patrons to capture, in pictures, a typical day in the life of our public library. These snapshots can depict staff assisting patrons in finding their next favorite book or helping them research an important topic. The photos will record patrons attending a meeting, using the computer lab, reading a book or magazine or introducing their children to the world of reading. In the end the snapshots are a great way to demonstrate what the library means to its patrons, the local public officials, and to the community as a whole.
All day Tuesday, August 11 the staff at the Foley Public Library will be offering to take patrons photos in the library demonstrating what they like best about their library, whether it is checking out books, attending movies, or just chatting with the friendly staff. Each participant will receive a prize in return for their picture and their name will be placed in a special drawing for a large grand prize to be announced at the end of the day.
Alfred Hitchcock’s birthday: Throughout the month of August the Library will be celebrating Alfred Hitchcock’s birthday (August 13, 1899) with featured movies from the master of mystery and suspense. A different title from his immense collection will be shown on Saturdays August 1, August 15, August 22, and August 29. All of the Hitchcock thrillers will begin at 1:00 PM in the library’s upstairs meeting room.
Thursday Afternoon Movies: This fall the Foley Library will continue its Thursday afternoon movies with a classic film series. Beginning in September a classic film will be featured each third Thursday of the month unless otherwise noted. The schedule will feature well-known films from the drama, horror, and comedy genres.
