FOLEY, Ala. - The Foley Public Library will begin its annual Summer Reading program for children on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Foley Civic Center.
The theme of this year's program is "One World, Many Stories," and the program will be each Thursday in June. The theme is designated to all public libraries throughout the state of Alabama, but the Foley library tweaked the theme a bit.
"I added to mine and put 'Book a trip' at the end," Kelley Wansley, children's librarian, said. "You can get into a book and it can take you anywhere."
For each 30 minutes — preschool attendants — or 60 minutes — school age attendants — that children read, they can place their names into a drawing for a chance to win savings bonds.
"They bring back their reading log back, which they use to document the time spent reading," Wansley said. "If they read six hours, their name goes into a drawing six times. The more they read, the better their chances are."
Children also can win door prizes at each summer reading event, and every child reader will be rewarded at the final summer reading event on June 30.
The library also will begin hosting movie nights. The movie events will begin June 8 and run each Wednesday at 10 a.m. in June thereafter.
Wansley and Anna Hallex, assistant children's librarian, put together this year's summer children's program.
