Foley, Ala. - The Foley City Council unanimously approved Monday a request to apply for the Alabama Department of Environmental Management recycling grant.
The city is considering applying for a $20,000 recycling trailer or a $135,000 recycling truck, and Butch Bledsoe, sanitation superintendent, said the city has a better chance of the trailer being approved.
"In the past the focus was on getting recycle programs started. This year its' focus is on equipment and partnerships," he said. "Foley High School throws away 120 cases of plastic bottles a day. We do recycling on Mondays but we want to expand the service to five days a week. This grant will enable us to buy containers and the recycle trailer and stuff like that. We can also use the trailer at city events."
Bledsoe also told the council the city would not have to make any matching funds for the grant.
