FOLEY, Ala. - Tanger Outlet Center in Foley has reason to celebrate just days after celebrating.

The Foley-based outlet center set the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest individual dessert party with 553 attendants at the May 12 party, which celebrated the outlet's 30th anniversary as a national company.

Jackie Sewell, general manager of the Foley outlet center, used the word "proud" numerous times when describing her feelings towards the area residents and community leaders who supported the local center's efforts.

"It just shows you what a good community and a lot of hard work can do," Sewell said. "We were just so happy to be a part of it and be recognized for doing something good and positive.

"It was truly a group effort. We had support from the city, the chamber, the police and fire came out and helped."

Tanger centers across the country celebrated the 30th year with a simultaneous dessert party, consisting of each attendant taking a bite of dessert at 2 p.m. CDT and celebrating for the next 15 minutes to make it an official count. The simultaneous, nationwide party was an attempt to set the Guinness Book of World Records for the world's largest dessert party, and the company succeeded with 6,997 participants from 35 Tanger locations counted for the official record.

Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, Inc. stated in a press release that 97 percent of all Guinness Book of World Record attempts are unsuccessful.
