Foley to expand disc golf course

FOLEY, Ala. — Graham Creek Nature Preserve its about to double the size of its disc-golf course.

“We’ve been asked to upgrade,” Foley Environmental Manager Leslie Gahagan said during Tuesday’s City Council work session.

The preserve’s current facility houses nine baskets for the game that combines Frisbee and golf. Since its inceptiton, the facility has been the most-used attraction, Gahagam told the Council.

“It’s our most popular feature,” she said.

“It’s well used,” said Councilman Charlie Ebert, who said he made that observation during a recent visit to the preserve.

Gahagan added that the increasing popularity of the sport has even spurred the opening of Gulf Coast High Flyers.

“There’s a store coming into Gulf Shores that specializes in disc golf,” she said.

Gahagan said concrete pads would be installed to add nine additional “holes,” as would additional baskets.

“It’s all on existing open areas,” she said, adding that the project would make an 18-hole course.

Gahagan added that the expanded course will be situated around the preserve’s hiking trails.

According to city records, the cost of the project will be $3,934.35.
