FOLEY - The Foley Woman’s Club annual Christmas luncheon was canceled this year due to COVID-19 fears, however a few members and friends decided to gather instead. The group met at the new Foley restaurant Locals & Company for a girl’s get-together lunch to help support the local restaurant. Other club members who were to attend the canceled Christmas luncheon chose to donate their luncheon fee to the Clubs donation to the Alabama Boys Ranch.
President Kelly Barrett took the opportunity to announce that the Foley Woman’s Club had once again been named “Best Civic Club” in the “Big Beautiful Baldwin’s Best” by Gulf Coast Media.
Club member Jeannie Rikard presented a $1,000 donation to help with the Club’s charitable donations. Rikard and her husband Frank have given the Club a generous donation for several years, allowing the Foley Woman’s Club to give assistance to groups that help women and children services in Baldwin County.
Since 2006, the Foley Woman’s Club has held their annual “Mad Hatters’ event” which includes a lite lunch, silent auctions, raffles, entertainment and hat contest. One hundred percent of all profits are donated to charitable groups in the Baldwin County area. Local businesses and community leaders have been supportive of the club’s efforts and have made generous monetary donations, as well as auction and raffle items. Because the March 2020 event had to be canceled due to State of Alabama COVID-19 restrictions, all items and donations have been kept in readiness for their March 3, 2021 event.
The Club is looking forward to resuming their usual activities and having a bigger and better March 2021 Mad Hatters’ Event! All tickets purchased for the 2020 event will be honored.
