FOLEY — Eight historic churches located in Foley that were recognized as a part of Foley’s Centennial Celebration will be open for tours on Saturday, Oct. 3.
Tours of the churches are one of many Centennial events are being celebrated throughout 2015. Photos and information about each of the churches was published in a booklet that will be available to everyone taking the free tour.
Each of the churches will offer a one-hour tour on Saturday, Oct. 3. A bus will provide free transportation to the churches, leaving from the Foley Soccer Complex, located at 0129301 Hwy. 98. Those planning to take the bus are encouraged to be there before 8:45 a.m., and are asked to enter the Soccer fields from Hwy. 98. A donation of $5 to park will benefit the Lighthouse and CARE house. Buses will be visible in the parking area. The first tour begins at 9 a.m.
Anyone who wishes can drive to any given church at the appointed time for that church tour. The churches will be open for touring during the scheduled time only.
Churches open for tours include: Southside Missionary Baptist Church at 9 a.m.; St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church at 10 a.m.; Little Rock Baptist Church at 11 a.m.; return to Foley Soccer Complex for lunch; Foley First Baptist Church at 1 p.m.; St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 2 p.m.; St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 3 p.m.; Foley United Methodist Church at 4 p.m.; First Presbyterian Church, Foley, at 5 p.m.; returning to the Foley Soccer Complex at 6 p.m.
The tours are organized as a part of Foley’s Centennial Celebration, through the History subcommittee chaired by Tim and Sandy Russell. The Historic Churches sub- committee was headed by Marge Moore, Anne Smith and Sandy Russell.
The Foley Soccer Fields are also the site of the 2nd Annual Gulf Coast Gospel Jubilee, also held on Oct. 3 at the Foley Soccer Fields from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
