IRVINGTON, Ala. – The Bryant Hurricanes kept the game close with the Foley Lions Friday evening and were only down by a score of 14-0 at the half. Foley coach Todd Watson said, "We moved the ball but we just couldn't put it in the end zone."
That would change dramatically in the second half as the Lions found the end zone repeatedly and soundly thrashed the Hurricanes by a score of 40-7. Foley had 288 yards on the ground and were led by Kalif Koen, who had 108 of those yards on 12 carries including a touchdown run of 23 yards. His backfield mate Joseph Brister had 111 yards on only 7 carries, one of which was a 75-yard touchdown jaunt.
Foley quarterback Darius Powell had 121 passing yards on 14 of 24 completions with two touchdown tosses. Bob Pugh caught a scoring pass on a 20 yarder and a 6 yard throw to Scott Tarius was also a touchdown.
In the fourth quarter, Mason Taylor tossed a 15 yard pass to Alontai Adams to complete the scoring for Foley.
The Lion defense shutdown the Hurricanes and were attacking all night. They forced 3 turnovers including a 10-yard-interception return for a score by Jacob Prim. The Hurricanes did manage to score when Julius Fantroy busted up the middle of the line for an 80 yard run late in the game. Bryant also put 316 yards of offense on Foley, the most they had given up all year, but the Lions defense denied the Hurricanes whenever they got close.
Alma Bryant will host LeFlore on Friday at 7 p.m. and Foley will visit Baldwin County in Bay Minette.
