William Martin Folks, 86, a native of Glasgow, Ky., a former resident of Mobile, and a resident of Spanish Fort, died Thursday, April 29, 2010.

He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.  He was a grand master bridge player since 1968. He was an avid baker that loved spending time at the beach and with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Pearlie Goldman Folks and Anne Latimer Folks.

Survivors include a son, Charles “Chunky” (Ellen) Folks of Baton Rouge, La.; daughter, Jane Folks (Leonard Barasch) Tarlow of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Heather Folks, Shawn (Jamie) Folks and Lauren Folks, all of Baton Rouge, La., and Sarah Barasch of St. Louis, Mo.; cousins, Reita Paplanus Franco and Sam Paplanus; and nieces, Susan Saks, Sara Morrison and Doris Baker.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 13 at Springhill Avenue Temple in Mobile.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Springhill Avenue Temple in Mobile, 1769 Springhill Ave., Mobile, AL 36607.
