A developing tropical weather system is getting the attention of forecasters who are urging coastal residents to keep an eye on what is expected to become Tropical Storm Danny before the weekend.
On Aug. 18 the National Hurricane Center issued the following report:
Showers and thunderstorms associated with an area of low pressure located several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands have become better organized over the past 24 hours.
Environmental conditions appear conducive for additional development, and a tropical depression will likely form within the next day or two while the system moves west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph.
Formation chance through 48 hours is listed at high or 70 percent and the chance for formation within five days is also listed as high at 80 percent.
