Former cheerleader association president indicted

FOLEY, Ala. — A former president of the Foley Youth Cheerleader Association, arrested one year ago for fraudulent use of a debit card, has been indicted by the Baldwin County grand jury.

Brandy Virginia Flowers, 30, of East Verbena Avenue was arrested last December after she confessed to using approximately $4,000 of Association money for personal use.

Flowers, who had been FYCA president since 2004, was relieved of duties a few months before her arrest when a new FYCA president and a group of coaches came to the conclusion that money was missing from the cheerleading account.

A Foley Police Department investigator said last December that the amount of missing money could be over $8,000 since 2006, but Flowers confessed to taking $4,000 from the account illegally to pay personal bills in cash.

The charges against Flowers related to unauthorized debit card transactions and forged checks. She was also charged at her arrest with six different counts of fraudulent use of a debit card.

The recent grand jury indictment was a single count of first-degree theft of property and stated the “approximate aggregate value” of the theft was in excess of $2,500.

Flowers was booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Center on Dec. 11, 2007, on the first-degree theft of property charge. Court documents stated the theft occurred between Jan. 1, 2006, and November 2007.

First-degree theft of property is a Class B felony punishable by not more than 20 years or less than two years in prison.

Bail was fixed for Flowers at $7,500 on Nov. 26, 2008, in connection with the one-count indictment.
