United States Attorney Kenyen R. Brown of the Southern District of Alabama announced Friday that Michael Dewayne Comalander, 54, of Fairhope was sentenced in federal district court to 5 years of probation on a federal firearms charge.
In imposing the sentence, U.S. District Judge Callie V. S. Granade also ordered that Comalander pay a $100 special assessment and receive periodic surveillance for detection of drug abuse, substance abuse treatment, and 8 months of home confinement.
Comalander previously served as Fairhope’s chief of police.
In April 2014, Comalander unlawfully used and was addicted to methadone, a schedule II controlled substance, while possessing numerous firearms. He was a patient of Fairhope Dr. Joseph Ndolo, who was sentenced in December on federal drug distribution charges.
The case was investigated by the FBI.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant US Attorneys Gregory Bordenkircher and Sinan Kalayoglu.
