FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Page & Palette, 32 S. Section St. in Fairhope, will host Sam Haskell on Thursday, May 21, from 6-8 p.m. He will speak and sign his book “Promises I Made My Mother.”

Haskell has had an interesting career, and retired a few years ago as executive vice president and head of Worldwide Television for the William Morris Agency.

He put together some of the biggest shows in television history, oversaw the television careers of some of the biggest names in the business and was named in 2007 by Television Weekly as “One of the 25 Most Influential People in Television of the Last 25 Years.”

Although he has lived in Los Angeles for many years, he is a native of Amory, Miss., and spends a good bit of time there.

He raised millions of dollars for scholarships in the state, and raised millions more for Hurricane Katrina relief  with his 2005 MSNBC show, “Mississippi Rising.”

Concerning his book, Haskell says, “None of this could have happened had I not taken to heart the many lessons my mother taught me daily, and worked to keep the many promises I made to her about how I’d live my life, promises large and small, spoken and silent, promises that brought me success and kept me grounded.”

Haskell is currently chairman of the board and executive producer of the Miss America Pageant, and is on the board for the Kennedy Center.
