DAPHNE, Ala. — “She’s Bound to be a Goer!” is the title of Creighton “Peco” Forsman’s recently published book about one of the most important events in Baldwin County History…The era of the “Bay Boats” from 1894 - 1934.

Forsman was the guest speaker at the July meeting of the Baldwin County Historical Society held at the Daphne Senior Center. He presented a narrated slide viewing of the better known Bay Boats and their history. Prior to the opening of the Mobile Bay Causeway in 1927, these steam-powered boats were the only means of transportation across Mobile Bay.

Forsman is a graduate of Troy State University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in History. He is a former U. S. Navy Corpsman and served in Vietnam.

He has a varied occupational background, including cabinet maker. In recent years, he has used his wood working skills to create models of several bay boats for the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation (FSTC).

All models will be on exhibit at the Fairhope History Museum beginning in May 2015. Currently, individual models can be seen at the Fairhope Public Library, Fairhope History Museum, FSTC, Hampton Inn, Fairhope City Hall, and Thomas Hospital.

The Baldwin County Historical Society was founded in 1923 to ensure the preservation of the rich heritage of the county. Visit BaldwinCountyHistoricalSociety.wordpress for additional information.
