At around 4:45 a.m. Sunday, a four-vehicle crash turned into a 27-car pileup on Interstate 10 eastbound near the Loxley exit;
no deaths were reported but some drivers received injuries that required further medical attention, according to the Alabama State Troopers' office.
Daphne residents Kenneth Liao, 30, and Shellie Dangelo, 36, both riding in a 2006 Lexus, were taken to a nearby hospital by paramedics.
Alabama State Troopers said a dense fog Sunday morning was the cause for the crash.
“There was smoke (from the accident) combined with the fog,” an Alabama State Troopers spokesperson said. “It was all, basically, the fog that caused it.”
Traffic was reportedly backed up on Interstate 10 east until around 11 a.m.
Derrick Watson, 41, of Grand Bay; Garland King, 60, of Purvis, Miss.; and Jerome Jordan, 31, and Jerome Jordan III, 6,of Jacksonville, Fla., were also involved in the initial accident and were taken for medical treatment.
