FOLEY, Alabama -- The South Baldwin Chamber Foundation is preparing for the Fourth Annual BBQ & Blues Cook-Off scheduled for Saturday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Foley's Heritage Park. This year, the event has been placed on the official Alabama BBQ Trail, sponsored by the Alabama BBQ Association. This should have a significant impact on the number of cook teams and attendees. Staff members have been receiving inquiries from possible teams from all over the southeast.
Applications are now being accepted for cook-off teams (professional and amateur), food vendors, arts and craft vendors, and retail vendors. Teams compete for trophies, prizes, and bragging rights in several categories: Chicken, Anything Butt, Ribs, Just Butts, Sauce, Baldwin's Best Q and People's Choice. An additional category has been added this year, Overall Grand Champion! Individuals, businesses, civic clubs, and restaurants are all invited to participate. Team entry forms and guidelines are available at the Chamber office or on the Foundation's website: www.sbchamberfoundation.com.
The ticket price to enter the gated event is $10 and children 10 & under will be admitted free. The ticket includes: event entry, live entertainment, children's activities, BBQ tasting, silent auction, arts & craft vendors and an opportunity to win one of several prizes: A Gulf condo weekend get-a-way; Vivitar Vivicam Digital Camera, $50 Wal-Mart Gift Card; $25 Brooks Brothers Gift Card; and a $25 Gift Certificate to The Gift Horse Restaurant. Ticket holders need not be present to win. Therefore, if you are unable to attend the event, go ahead and purchase a ticket for an opportunity to win. The American Red Cross will also be sponsoring a blood drive that day.
The BBQ and Blues Cook-Off is the major fundraiser for the Chamber Foundation. Proceeds benefit the many educational programs focusing on leadership development, educational enrichment, drop-out prevention, drug prevention, parental involvement, and teacher professional development for Foley feeder schools.
