Fourth fireworks caps busy week

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Well, we have seen another Fourth of July roll around and we thank God there were no major fireworks incidents. There were several family reunions taking place including the Bolling family and the Cox family.

The Douglasville Alumni Association also held their annual Class Night at the Bay Minette Civic Center. It was good seeing everyone at home and enjoying the fellowship. My sister and her husband, Ann and Ike Lipsey were also here from Milwaukee.

A big congratulations to my son, Quein Higgins, who just received a master’s degree. Wow! What a blessing. He has worked real hard toward reaching that goal. Hats off to you Quein, and I love you very much.

Quein just always trust God to lead and guide you every day.

Annual Women’s Day will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. We ask that you consider sharing in with us as we have nine speakers speaking on The Fruit of the Spirit. So join us over at Union Baptist Church at 955 Carroll Ave. Margaret Bishop is chairlady and yours truly, Ethel Higgins, is assistant chairlady. The Rev. Dwight Boykin is pastor.

We had some great tennis match-ups last weekend. I watched most of the matches and they were certainly worth watching. In fact, if you missed them, then you missed a treat. That was the ladies and the men and let’s not forget the doubles.

Little Quentavious Jenkins had his first birthday party last Saturday at the park.

It was raining but we made it through the party. He got so many gifts and was so cute. He is my nephew and godson.

Guess what! I went fishing on Monday. And yes, I did catch some fish. It was lots of fun.

Pastor Fannie Hooks will be honored with an appreciation July 20 at Bay Minette Civic Center. They invite you, you and you to join them in this special celebration, climax at 3 p.m.

Get well wishes goes out to a few people: Melvina Warren, Ora Carroll, Jimmie Lee York, Minnie Morgan, Maxie Mix and Jimmie Lou Moorer.

Until next week, be strong in the Lord.
