FOLEY, Ala. — Foley Police Department has been awarded Second Place in the state for its efforts in the 2007 Labor Day campaign to crackdown on drunk driving and lessen highway fatalities caused by impaired drivers.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) supported the Labor Day weekend campaign, "Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest." More than 11,500 enforcement agencies nationwide participated in increased patrols and sobriety checkpoints during the campaign.
Foley officers patrolled city roadways during the campaign with the help of a grant that paid for officers' overtime. The overtime was reimbursed to the city through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs' (ADECA) Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Division.
"Our guys did an excellent job and are deserving of this award," said Foley Police Chief David Wilson in a press release issued in connection with the award.
"They were recognized for exceptional job accomplishment through productive work and best return on investment with the grant. Impaired drivers are dangerous and we are serious about taking them off our roadways."
