FOLEY — Frances Holk-Jones, a Baldwin County native and local insurance agent, announces her candidacy for Foley City Council District 4. Holk-Jones is a very active community leader in Foley and has been for many years.
“I love serving Foley and look forward to adding another voice of expertise and leadership to our city council,” says Holk-Jones. “As our city continues to grow by leaps and bounds, I think it’s important that we elect strong leaders that will work hard to manage this growth in a way that ensures future economic stability, enhances our existing infrastructure and preserves the current quality of life that we have and appreciate.”
Frances’ community roots run deep. She is the fourth generation of her family to be a State Farm agent in Foley and will be the third generation of her family to be a representative in the city’s government. Her grandfather, George Holk, was the mayor of Foley in the 1920s. Her father, Arthur Holk, served on the city council for 20 years and then served as the mayor of Foley for 20 more years.
“I’m very proud of our Foley heritage,” Holk-Jones states. “I am ready to immediately start working on preserving all that’s great about Foley and ensuring that our city continues to grow in ways that will secure its future stability and economic strength.”
Frances Holk-Jones is a Foley High School and Auburn University graduate. She is a top ranking State Farm agent and has an accomplished record of community volunteer involvement. Holk-Jones has served 16 years as president of the Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation bringing the concept of Peer Helper programs to 47 schools throughout Baldwin County. She has been involved with numerous leadership roles and civic organizations including Foley Rotary Club, South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Baldwin County, South Baldwin Regional Medical Center, Impact 100 of Baldwin County, Care House and Coastal Art Center. Her dedication to serving the community has been recognized by Rotary International as a Paul Harris Fellow, by the Association of Fundraising Professionals as the 2010 Philanthropist of the Year, by the National Association of Peer Program Professionals as the 2011 Champion of Peer Helping, by the Foley Fire Department as the 2011 Ralph Schumacher Outstanding Community Service Award recipient, by the American Heart Association as the 2012 Face of Heart, by the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce business community as the 2014 Walton M. Vines Free Enterprise Person of the Year and by the American Heart Association as the 2015 Art for Heart Community Honoree.
“I was raised to serve our community for the greater good and always give back,” says Holk-Jones. “I believe through hard work, dedication and listening to the citizens that Foley will thrive. “
Frances is married to Carl Jones and they have four children, the late Jennifer Moore, Grayson Moore, Carl Jones II and Lee Jones. They along with the Friends of the Frances Holk-Jones Campaign Committee will be hosting a Community Kick-Off Barbecue Tuesday, April 26 from 5–7:30 p.m. at the Melvin Roberts Park located at 901 N. Cedar St. in Foley. Holk-Jones encourages the public to attend this free event, “Bring your family, have some good barbecue and let’s celebrate the future of Foley together!”
