Frederick S. “Fred” Konecek, 76, a native of Chicago, Ill. and resident of Elberta, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014.

Mr. Konecek served in the United States Navy in Pensacola, and was aboard the USS Shangri-la while stationed in Mayport, Fla.

In recent years, he enjoyed the coffee club in Elberta. He was an avid baker of Polish dishes, especially during the holidays, and he was known for his delicious cookies and cakes.

As family was a vital and so much an enjoyable part of his life, he found joy in making sure the grandchildren knew Polish traditions.

Mr. Konecek also took pleasure in his fruit trees, and was a great vegetable gardener, canning much of his produce.

But most of all, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family will treasure the memories they have made, and miss him greatly.

He was preceded in death by a son, Danny Konecek.

He is survived by his wife, Rose C. Konecek of Elberta; daughter, Karen (Keith) Lambeth of Pensacola; five grandchildren, Courtney (Roy) Blanco, Alisha Dumas, Jaimee Dumas, Aimee Dumas and Trinity Lambeth; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Donalson, Olivia Blanco and Grace Blanco; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, from 6-8 p.m., at Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at 10 a.m., at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Elberta, with Father James Dean officiating.

Burial will be in the Prince of Peace Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Kenny Barth, Curtis Evans, David Pitman, Mike Davis, Keith Lambeth and Roy Blanco.

Honorary pallbearers include James Haupt, Otto Ulrich, Paul Peschel, Roy Mortensen and Doug Stewart.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Suite 200, Bethesda, MD 20814.

Arrangements by Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, Robertsdale.
