The Friends of the Thomas B. Norton Library in Gulf Shores met in the Library conference room on Sept. 21 for a general planning meeting plus a pot-luck salad and dessert lunch.
Chan West (almost native of Gulf Shores) brought the program on her early recollections of living on the beach and how it has prospered and changed. She had old plot charts, photographs, and newspaper clippings. During WWII, one Pensacola pilot wanting extra target practice, chose her beach shed as a target. No one was on the beach or in the shed, but it sure clipped the pilot’s wings when reported.
At our meeting on Nov. 16 the program will be brought by Patti Hall of the “Little Zoo that Could.” The meeting starts at 10:30 a.m. with coffee at the First Presbyterian Church located on East Second Ave. and 21st St. in Gulf Shores. After the meeting the Friends will adjourn to the Thomas B. Norton Library to decorate the Christmas Tree.
New members are always welcome, and dues are only $10 annually. The Friends meet five times during the year and have a massive Book/Bake Sale at the Adult Activity Center in February to raise money for the Library. This year two social programs are planned: Bellingrath Gardens on Nov. 30 and a Dolphin Cruise on April 7. For more information call President Sandra Lee at 251-968-2326 or Vice-President Judy Harland at 251-968-2428.
