• Sun Chiefs women build early lead and finish strong against cross-bay rival Wildcats
BAY MINETTE, Ala.—The Faulkner State women rolled to a 61-28 win over Bishop State at Jack Robertson Arena Thursday night.
Yasmine Beasley was 5-for-7 from the field and led the Sun Chiefs with 13 points, seven rebounds. A’Jaspin Whitfield hit three 3-pointers with a shorter field goal for 11 points and Angel Carlton added nine points with eight rebounds and was 5-of-7 at the free throw line. FSCC led the Wildcats 28-11 at the half.
“We had a good night,” said FSCC head coach Linda Pitts. “I think we played well and didn’t let up. That’s always good to see and it also allows a lot of players to get in the game and get some experience. I was generally pleased with how we played. But we still have some work cut out for us at Chat Valley and of course want to close out the regular season strong here at home next week.”
The Sun Chiefs improved to 17-3 overall and 8-2 in the ACCC South Division and remain at the top of the standings. Chattahoochee Valley is second at 13-13 and 7-3.
FSCC travels to Phenix City Feb. 22 to take on Chat Valley and returns home to host Enterprise State (7-12, 2-8) Wednesday, Feb. 24. Tipoff is set for 5:15 p.m. The women’s state tournament is set to start March 1-4 at Hanceville.
