FSCC Cheerleaders named National Champions for Fifth Time

Bay Minette, Alabama—Faulkner State Community College’s Cheerleading team once again has claimed a national title during the Cheer LTD National Championship in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. This is the fifth national title the Faulkner State Sun Chief Cheerleaders have won.

“This year’s routine was comprised of two minutes and 30 seconds of dancing, tumbling, stunting, jumps, pyramids and basket tosses choreographed to cheers and music,” Celeste Robertson, Faulkner State’s Cheerleading Coach for the past seven years, said.

The March 17 event had both all-girl and co-ed divisions. Faulkner State qualified under the large co-ed division, defeating teams from across the nation. These teams included Florida Atlantic University, Lander University, Newberry College, University of Alabama in Huntsville, Virginia Tech, Indiana University Southeast, Iowa Central Community College and University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

“I am very proud of this year’s team,” Robertson said. “They put a lot of hard work and long hours into this routine and were able to execute when it counted.”

Members of the 2012 Sun Chief Cheerleaders are sophomores: Tanell Hooker (Chickasaw), Huntley Wilson (Theodore), Revon Magee (Miami, Fla), Kelsi Andrade (Mobile), Carson Leach (Semmes), Ashton Phillips (Thomasville), Kara Culpepper (Gardendale), Raymond Williams (Sunflower) and Sara Ladnier (Mobile). 2012 Freshmen cheerleaders are: Sarah Cates (Mobile), Nancy Evans (McIntosh), Samantha Wyatt (Mobile), Taylor Aerne (Lake Ville, Ill.), Erica Fickling (Grand Bay), Jai Cannon (Bay Minette), Bri Clark (Bay Minette), Chris Wilks (Robertsdale), Kenneth Jackson (Century, Fla.), Darius Sewell (Mobile), Wesley Brittain (Hokes Bluff) and Julian Samuels (Birmingham). Not pictured are Victoria Brewer (Satsuma) and Haley Poiroux (Mobile).

“Support from the Athletic Department and the Administration at Faulkner State make it possible to be competitive at this level,” Robertson said. “It is a very special thing for these athletes to be able to compete and be successful in a sport they love, while representing their community, college, and state.”
