Their long road trip to Phenix City was even longer coming back Monday night for Faulkner State’s basketball teams after they both lost Alabama Community College Conference South Division games at Chattahoochee Valley Community College.
CVCC’s women handed the lady Sun Chiefs their seventh straight loss, 61-45, then the Pirates snapped the Sun Chiefs’ two-game wining streak, 84-75. The FSCC women dropped to 9-17 overall and 4-9 in the South Division while the men dropped to 16-13 and 10-5.
Both FSCC teams will play their final regular-season game Thursday night at home against Enterprise-Ozark, the women tipping off at 5:15 p.m. with the men’s game scheduled for 7 p.m. in Robertson Arena/Sibert Gymnasium.
The SUn Chiefs have clinched a berth in the ACCC/Region 22 Men’s Tournament to be held in Muscle SHoals March 4-7. The women’s tournament hopes could be decided in Thursday night’s game.
Chattahoochee Valley’s Rosetta Harris scored 19 of her game-high 22 points in the second half to rally the Lady Pirates, who trailed 22-21 at halftime. Harris also finished with a game-high 12 rebounds.
Harris, who also had four steals and two blocked shots, was the only CVCC player to score in double figures,
Melissa Collins added nine points and two steals and Kenyarria Amey had eight points and three steals.
Faulkner had 33 turnovers and CVCC converted them into 27 points.
Freshman center Breunna Bester came of the bench to score 17 points and pull down six rebounds for the Lady Sun Chiefs. Quandra Hansford had 11 points, 11 rebounds and two steal,s and Crystal Morris finished with seven points and seven rebounds.
Donny Stanley scored 21 points and Herman Mains and Kenneth added 12 each to lad the CVCC men past the Sun Chiefs.Smith also posted four assists an, two steals and a blocked shot on the stat sheet. Mains also had two steals.
Paul Holmes led the SuN Chiefs with 19 points, 11 rebounds, a steal, a nd a blocked shot before fouling out after playing 37:48. Center Jonathan Moore finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal while playing 34:30.
Sub Jeff Lewis also had 15 points, and Terrence Mitchell scored 11 points for the Sun Chiefs. Lewis was 8-for-9 at the free throw line.
