FSCC Women's Basketball: Sun Chiefs win seven straight

BAY MINETTE, Ala. - A seven-game winning streak has pushed the Faulkner State Lady Sun Chiefs toward the top of the ACCC's Southern Division women's basketball standings. Coach Linda Pitts and her Lady Chiefs have not lost since January 7 and are currently 13-2 on the year and tied atop the league standings with a 4-1 mark.

Faulkner got things rolling on January 12, defeating Lurleen B. Wallace 74-57. Yasmine Beasley's 24 points paced Pitts team to the victory. Jasmine Lee-Stackhouse added 15 for FSCC while Angel Carthen also hit for double figures, netting 12 points.

All three of the high scoring Lady Chiefs pulled down eight rebounds apiece. FSCC then stepped out of conference play and registered a 64-39 win over LSU-Eunice. A'Jaspin Whitfield led all scorers as she had 15 points for the Chiefs. Lee-Stackhouse added thirteen and Latia Pullum dropped in twelve points. Lee-Stackhouse and Jensis Coleman each pulled down eight rebounds and Lee-Stackhouse had four blocks in the win.

Faulkner State then went on the road and defeated Alabama Southern by a 45-38 margin. Carthen's eleven point and 13 rebound performance led the Bay Minette team. Lee-Stackhouse added ten points and four blocks while Coleman had nine points and four steals. Beasley also had nine in the point total column and added four blocks.

A 62-36 league win in Mobile against Bishop was next with Whitfield's eleven points pacing Pitts' crew. Coleman and Beasley each tossed ten with Beasley leading on the boards with 12 rebounds. Daesha Nakes had four steals.

Faulkner made it five in a row with a 77-43 victory over Spring Hill's JV in Mobile. Whitfield led four double figure scorers with 15 points. Beasley and Lee-Stackhouse each netted thirteen points while Zana Burke had ten. Nakira Seals and Pullum each dished out five assists while Coleman had eight rebounds. Beasley had three blocks. Faulkner then won game number six in a row, downing visiting Chattahoochee Valley 67-51 and No. 7 at Enterprise State 48-40 on Jan. 28.

The Chiefs will host Wallace Selma Thursday, Feb. 4 at 5:15 p.m. at home in Robertson Arena.
