STAPLETON, Alabama — Baldwin County Sheriff’s deputies arrested an escaped inmate from Louisiana following a tip from the U.S. Marshals Service.

According to a release from the BCSO Investigative Command Unit, deputies received information to be the lookout Wednesday for Chesley Harris, an escaped inmate from the Union Parish Detention Center in Farmerville, Louisiana, who was in Baldwin County traveling in a vehicle with a companion.

At around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, an investigator with the Sheriff’s Office spotted the vehicle south of Bay Minette. Several patrol units converged on the area and after a brief vehicle pursuit got the vehicle stopped on Redmond Lane in Stapleton. Both occupants were arrested without incident.

Harris, 40, escaped from the detention center last week by hiding under the frame of a food delivery truck that was making a delivery to the center, according to the release.

Harris is being held in the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Facility on fugitive of justice charges and using a false identity to obstruct justice. He will be extradited back to Louisiana where he was serving a 25-year sentence for several felony charges.

The companion, Dorche Morrison, 28, of Mobile, was charged with first degree hindering prosecution. She was released on a $1,500 bond Wednesday.

Loxley Police and the U.S. Marshals service assisted with the arrests.
