Recently, our organization, Bayside Medical Missions, held a fundraiser to help equip a new surgery center in Portoviejo, Ecuador; local medical volunteers have been doing surgical work in Ecuador for the last few years. This fundraiser, The Jubilee Race for Life 5K and One Mile Fun Run, took place on Saturday, Sept. 27 on Main Street in Daphne.
This race was the culmination of many months of planning and work by volunteers in our community. Thanks to these individuals and sponsors, the race was a great success and we plan to make it an annual event.
Many thanks go to the City of Daphne for allowing our event to take place in their community. We want to give a special thanks to Melvin McCarley with the Public Works Department in Daphne, and also to the Daphne Police Department for their service.
The Frame Corner, Bayshore Baptist Church and Christ The King School graciously allowed us to use their property. The Daphne High School ROTC, Dogwood Trail Maids, Bayside Academy Girls Service Club, Baldwin Christian Home Educators Association, Cub Scout Pack 47, Boy Scout Troop 47 and Eastern Shore Presbyterian Youth all contributed to our effort to produce a first-class race.
Our corporate sponsors gave us the funding to produce this race, and I’d love for folks to take a look at our Web site, www.baysidemedicalmissions.org to see the names of these fine sponsors.
Many local businesses and individuals donated door prizes, food, drinks and gifts for our participants. Local businesses helped us get the word out by allowing posters and registration forms to be placed at their sites. Some local, state and national media included our race information on their published calendars, and some did feature articles on our organization. We plan on having these many sponsor names up on the Web site soon!
Last, but not least, we want to thank all the people who registered and participated in the 5K and the One Mile Fun Run.
We have a great community and all this support truly proves it!
