A fundraiser for charter boat captain Mo Shaver will be at North Shore Deli in SanRoc Cay this Thursday from 5-9 p.m.
Included in the night’s festivities will be live music, food, raffles, prizes and auctions. Anyone wishing to donate items should call Anne Courtney at 251-752-2678.
Shaver, 30, was diagnosed with brain cancer in March, and is the popular owner of Mo’ Fishin’ tackle shop and has been in the charter fishing business for 12 years. The Shavers have a three-year-old son, Stone, are expecting a baby girl in July.
Last Thursday, EAT! Restaurant just south of Canal Road near The Wharf in Orange Beach put on a benefit luncheon with the help of the Orange Beach Fishing Association.
“(Mark Sherrill) came to us and asked how he could help,” said Capt. Iris Ethridge, an officer in the fishing group. Sherrill and his wife, Jenny, are co-owners of EAT!.
The fishing association offered to help with the fundraiser and more than $8,800 was raised at the luncheon. According to Etheridge, the group has a “Compassionate Fund” and money raised by the group is tax deductible.
