BAY MINETTE – Needing only 14 points to make 1,000 points in his career, Charleston Gandy scored 21 to lead the Baldwin County High School Tigers to a 76-69 victory over McGill Yellow Jackets last week.

The Tigers opened up the game strong, taking a quick 10-3 lead and they never let up as they finished the first quarter 20-10. Larry Rodgers had 10 points in the first quarter. BCHS kept the first quarter momentum in the second quarter  as they outscored the Jackets 22-17 for the 42-27 halftime score. Gandy went into the locker room only needing four points before the milestone.

With just two minutes gone in the second half Gandy scored his 1,000th point with a two point jump shot in front of the Tiger bench. After the game resumed from presenting Gandy with a milestone ball, the Yellow Jackets went on a 14-3 run to come within two points of tying the game 50-48.

With 6:54 left in the game McGill made a comeback and tied the game at 54-54 but the Tigers answered back with four unanswered points to retake control of the game. The Jackets then took their first lead of the game at 59-58 with just over four minutes left in the game. BCHS answered right back with two points from Mario Butler. The game was back and forth until the Tigers took a 5-0 run late in the game to pull away by five. With just under two minutes left in the game McGill started fouling to try to stop the clock and get control of the game once again. The strategy failed as Baldwin County scored seven of 11 free throws as they went on to beat McGill 76-69.

Gandy and Rodgers led the Tigers with 21 points, Michael Stanley had 11 points and Taylor Culliver aided with 10. Kenan Portis led the Jackets with 17 points and Kevin Jefferson aided with 16 points.

BCHS will host Robertsdale Friday January 22 with the game time scheduled for 7:30 pm.
