GULF SHORES, Ala. -- The Gulf Shores Garden Club selected Melody Irie as this year’s recipient of the annual Gulf Shores Garden Club Scholarship.

This annual scholarship is presented to a Gulf Shores High School senior or graduate who is pursuing a degree in horticulture, environment studies, forestry, or wildlife conservation.

Melody is an honor graduate of Gulf Shores High School and entering her senior year at the University of Alabama. Her area of study is environmental science. After graduation she begins graduate school at the University of Alabama.

She is the daughter of Mrs. Susan Irie and the granddaughter of Ms. Jane Nelson, both of Gulf Shores.

The annual scholarship is funded from proceeds from the Flower Seminar presented each year by the Gulf Shores Garden Club. The seminar allows the Gulf Shores Garden Club to support many community and school projects through out the year.
