Gates facing rape, drug charges

ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — A Robertsdale man charged with the first-degree rape of a 15-year-old female has been bound over to the Baldwin County grand jury.

Todd Jeffrey Gates, 46, of Adam Drive also is charged with first-degree manufacturing of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He remains at Baldwin County Corrections Center in Bay Minette on bail set at $250,000, according to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department online records.

The rape allegedly occurred May 18, according to court documents filed by Robertsdale investigator Anthony Dobson. Todd was charged with the rape May 21.

Todd was arrested May 20 in the Fred’s parking lot on State Highway 59 where the manufacturing charge was levied.

The Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant May 21 at Gates’ residence at County Road 48 and Adams Drive on the south side of Robertsdale, according to Capt. Stephen Arthur of the BCSO.

According to the BCSO, Gates was living at the property, described as a “bunch of sheds and trailers.”

“Gates has several previous arrests,” said Arthur. The arrests were in and around Baldwin County.

Police caught a break from an alert member of the public.

“A citizen spotted him and called it in,” said Arthur, who added that Gates’ Ford F-150 truck had been found earlier and impounded.

No one was injured during the arrest, according to Arthur.
