The second annual alligator hunt went without a hitch, with officials reporting no injuries or mishaps, said Chuck Sharp, District Wildlife Supervisor.
The hunters were very boisterous and in high spirits, he said. On Friday and Saturday nights, three of the largest gators that were ever caught were brought in, with a total of 55 gators harvested, Sharp said.
In addition to the 93 hunters, the event also drew a small crowd of about 60 onlookers. The second hunt will be this weekend.
“We hope to get close to l00,” Sharp said.
One-hundred hunters were chosen in a random computerized drawing. If you did not get a gator this past weekend, you are eligible to hunt this weekend.
“Most comments have been very positive, except for the heat and the bugs,” Sharp said.
Sharp hopes the weather for the upcoming hunt this weekend will be similar to the previous hunt last weekend with clear skies.
