Genora “Genny” Whitworth, 87, passed away Dec. 13, 2013. She was a resident at The Blake in Gulf Breeze, Fla.
Genny was the fourth child of Herbert and Nettie Green. She grew up in Blount County, Ala. and graduated from Oneonate High School.
Genny was fortunate to have several interesting and rewarding jobs during her working career. Her first job was as a waitress in the White Palace Café in Gadsden.
She entered the computer age by attending a school for data production and input to computers in the 1950s, and she was a keypunch card operator for several years.
She also enjoyed her work as a beauty consultant for Merle Norman, and worked in a local office of Edward Jones.
Other activities in which she participated included playing golf, being a member of a ladies’ mystic society in Mobile, events at the Fairhope Elks Lodge, Mardi Gras groups in Fairhope, and she was a lifelong Sacred Harp singer.
Genny was always well groomed, and had a vibrant personality and a perpetual smile.
Genny was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Chester Green and Nettie Alcedore Green; her husband of 38 years, Homer W. Whitworth; brother, William L. Green; and sisters, Leola Smith, Eldora Moody and Lois Green.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Nicholson; granddaughters, Gabrielle (Tommy) Beard and Neila Nicholson; brothers, Nathan (Norma) Green and Bennett (Catherine) Green; and great-grandchildren, Seth Beard and Charlotte Beard.
Visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 at the funeral home.
No funeral service will be held, and a private burial will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.
