George Ervin Frizzell, 69, born Sept. 4, 1940 in Foley, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 in Atlanta.
A 1958 graduate of Foley High School, he received a Naval ROTC scholarship to Auburn University, where he graduated in June 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics. Commissioned an ensign in the United States Navy, he entered flight training in Pensacola, Fla., and served with distinction as a pilot in the Atlantic fleet.
After active duty, he received an M.B.A. from the University of Florida and worked with Merrill Lynch in Macon, Ga., while remaining on reserve duty and attaining the rank of captain with the Navy before his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents Vivian Steadham Frizzell and Henry A. Frizzell Sr.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Barbara Thomas Frizzell; two daughters, Ashley Elizabeth Frizzell (William) Gilmore of Plano, Texas, and Katherine Anne Frizzell of Clarkesville, Ga.; two brothers, Henry A. Frizzell Jr. of Robertsdale and Ralph E. Frizzell of Kenai, Alaska; nephews, Michael W. Frizzell of Atlanta, and Todd E. Frizzell of Rosinton; niece, Susan Frizzell Dobson of Foley; and other family members.
A memorial service will be held at the Naval Aviation Memorial Chapel aboard Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla., with a Naval burial at sea to follow.
