George McLeod Cabaniss, born Nov. 10, 1925 in Rabun, died Thursday, June 23, 2011 at his residence in Stapleton, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was a member of East Point Baptist Church in Spanish Fort; he served in

the U.S. Navy as a Chief Radioman 3rd Class from 1944 until 1965; was a

veteran of World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars.

He was owner of the bowling ally in Bay Minette for 10 years. Along with five of his brothers, he bowled on the Cabaniss Brothers Team in the local Rebel League where they earned 20 championships in a 21 year period. He also worked for the Baldwin County Jail for 10 years.

Survivors include his wife Jeanette Grimes Cabaniss of Stapleton; three sons,

George (Patricia) Cabaniss Jr. of Maryland, Michael (Lynn) Cabaniss of Pennsylvania and Bobby (Nancy) Cabaniss of Kentucky; two step-children, George (Bobby) Byrd of

Stapleton and Louise (Earl) Parker of Rabun; brother, Bannie Cabaniss of Bay Minette; sister, Hazel Fallis of North Carolina; five grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and numerous step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 27 from the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Burns and Deloris Lee officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Leo Byrd, Shelby Byrd, Randy Hastings, Jody Hastings, Kyle Peterson, Chase Byrd and Bobby Cabaniss Jr.
