ELBERTA — Saint Benedict Catholic School in Elberta will hold its 41st annual German Fest Saturuday.

The day begins at 8 a.m. with a 5K Raven Run, followed by a Disciple Dash fun run, both of which will take participants around the school. Afterward, the day continues with an indoor rummage sale, carnival games, entertainment provided by Saint Benedict students and German food and beer available for purchase, with proceeds benefitting the school.

“It’s just a fun, family day,” Festival Coordinator Jill Rivera said in a phone interview.

Additional fundraisers are a Chinese raffle and $100 tickets for a 5 p.m. drawing in which the winner will receive either a 2013 Dodge Star or $20,000 cash.

“A lot of people come just for that,” Rivera said.

New this year is a performance by the Modern El Dorados that begins at 2 p.m.

The biggest fundraiser of the year for Saint Benedict, the German Fest attracts visitors and alumni.

“We had about a thousand last year,” Rivera said, adding that the event raised approximately $30,000 for the school.

She explained that a new way former students can be a part of the school’s upkeep is by visiting the alumni booth.

“We’re asking all the alumni to sign up,” Rivera said, explaining that those doing so will be charter members of an alumni foundation for the school.

Saint Benedict’s is located at 12786 Illinois St. in Elberta, two blocks off U.S. Highway 98.
