“Git-R-Done!” Anyone who is a fan of Larry the Cable Guy is certainly familiar with his popular catchphrase.

Now the Nebraska-born comedian (given name Daniel Lawrence Whitney), who gained fame as one of the co-stars of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, has his own show on The History Channel titled Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy.

The show, which airs Tuesday’s (8 p.m. Central Time) on the cable network, has featured some of the unique places in America, many in the South and one segment which aired during the show’s first season featured Mobile’s Greyhound Park.

On Saturday, Larry and the crew, which are currently filming the show’s second season, will return to Mobile, this time to film a segment at Mobile International Speedway with Baldwin County native son Bubba Blackwell.

“It turns out that Larry is a big fan of Harley Davidson,” said Blackwell, who is billed as one of the only performers to use the popular motorcycle in jumping stunts, patterned after his idol Evel Knievel.

Larry is performing in concert Saturday night in Biloxi and the original plan, Blackwell said, was to film the segment at the casino where he will be performing.

“But the casino decided they did not want us filming in their parking lot, so that left us scrambling for a new location,” Blackwell said. “They wanted a location that would be within an hour or so of where he’s going to be performing.”

So Blackwell called on his friend, Rick Crawford, who runs Mobile International Speedway in Irvington. Crawford and Blackwell had hooked up just over a month earlier on Blackwell’s Ride for St. Jude, which included a ride through the speedway en route to concerts at the Mobile Fairgrounds.

And while a busy touring schedule over the past month has presented some challenges for Blackwell and his crew to set up the stunt in Mobile, Blackwell said in a phone interview on Friday he is confident the show will go off without a hitch.

“I have a great crew and they’re working overtime to make sure we give the fans and Larry a great show,” said Blackwell, adding that he and his crew had camped out overnight Thursday at the racetrack so they could be up early Friday to prepare for Saturday’s show.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to once again be in the national spotlight on a highly rated show,” Blackwell said. “Things are going really well and I’m confident that we’re going to put on a good show and represent this area well.”

While Larry the Cable Guy was unavailble for comment, a spokesperson with the History Channel said they are “very excited about coming back to Mobile.”

Gates at Mobile International Speedway will open Saturday at 1 p.m. with the show beginning at 2 p.m., Blackwell said.

“We’re going to be doing some jumping and riding stunts throughout the day and we are planning a pretty big jump, which will begin around 4 p.m.,” he said. “It’s been a massive untertaking, building a ramp and everything, but in the end, it’s going to be worth it to put on a good show for the fans.”
