Gladys Long Crocker

Gladys Long Crocker, 89, formerly of Foley, Ala., passed away Oct. 9, 2015.

She was born Sept. 7, 1926 to Charles and Arilla Long in Moselle, Miss. Gladys graduated from Foley High School in 1944.

She worked as a secretary most of her working career. Gladys worked for the Pentagon, and Aerojet, McDonnell-Douglas and Lockheed, all three of which were major defense contractors. She was very proud of working in Washington, D.C. during WWII.

Gladys remembered watching FDR’s funeral cortege go by after he passed away in office and celebrating V-E Day and V-J Day there.

She was very proud to come from a large family. Gladys enjoyed visiting her nieces and nephews and loved spending time with her extended family.

She loved going to the beach and was a longtime resident of Santa Monica, Calif. Gladys had spent her last four years living in Norman, Okla., with her son to be near him and his family.

The family would like to thank the following organizations for their dedication and special care of Gladys: Brookhaven Mansions, Rambling Oaks Assisted Living and Life Spring Hospice.

Gladys is survived by her only son, Ed Crocker and wife, Ann of Norman; two grandchildren, Joe Crocker and wife, Lindsey of Fort Worth, Texas and Julia Crocker of Oklahoma City; great-granddaughter, Anna Crocker, of Fort Worth, Texas; sister, Helen Van Lierop of Corpus Christi, Texas; and many beloved nieces, nephews and family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Arilla (Collins) Long; six brothers; and four sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015 at Pine Rest Memorial Park, Foley, Ala.
