Animal lovers with big hearts have been finding ways to support The Baldwin County Humane Society during the holiday season, including many of the golfers at the Glenlakes Golf Club.
Glenlakes Golf Club is currently in the midst of a fundraiser to benefit BARC! The club’s original goal was to raise $2,000 over three months. The club’s first month of fundraising in October brought in $1,000, which set the fundraiser to overreach the goal the club set.
The Touchstone Foundation of the Glenlakes Golf Club is conducting the fundraiser. According to officials at Glenlakes, the Touchstone Foundation is comprised of volunteers from the golf club.
The fundraiser has included a $5 donation as part of a Par 3 contest where players paid extra to hit the green, and there is also a raffle going on in the pro shop at the golf club.
“For a $10 donation, you get a raffle ticket for a complete set of $2,500 Titleist golf clubs,” said Tim Cahill, general manager of Glenlakes Golf Club.
Since the fundraising endeavor began in October, members of the Touchstone Club have been pleased with its success and overwhelmed at how passionate the people in this area are about pets in need.
“The promotion debuted in October 2010 and within a month, we raised $1,000 for rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals,” said Tony Westervelt, Glenlakes Golf Club Director of Membership and Events.

The fundraising endeavors were still under way at press time, but organizers anticipate the funds raised will exceed the goal set back in October.
Glenlakes Golf Club conducts fundraisers for local organizations year-round.
“Our volunteers are here to help with the community in any of our fundraising activities. We hope to raise some money for some great causes in our community and be more of an active participant. This is just one of our miniature projects,” said Cahill.
