DAPHNE, Ala. — Daphne United Methodist Church on Sunday will host its second GLOW Festival.

The GLOW — God Lights the Way — Festival is a chance for the community to hear free music and play games in a family-friendly environment, according to organizers.

“We are doing this to provide a wholesome and entertaining atmosphere for our families to celebrate a (Halloween) holiday with Christian friends in a Christian atmosphere without the traditional fright involved,” DUMC Director of Ministries Michelle Johnson said.

The festival — which will run from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. — will include hay rides, a barbeque dinner and carnival games, like pumpkin bowling and pie-throwing, according to Johnson.

The bluegrass group Lock, Stock & Barrel will also perform during the festival, Johnson said.

The festival will end with the “Trunk or Treat” event, Johnson said.

Volunteers decorate the trunks and backs of their vehicles and hand candy out to children as they walk by, Johnson said.

“It give the kids a safe environment without having to do door-to-door (trick-or-treating),” Johnson said.

Children are encouraged to wear fun — but not too scary — costumes, Johnson said.

“The purpose is not to scare people,” she said.

The church is located at 2401 Main St.
