BAY MINETTE — The Bay Minette Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association is hosting a fundraiser where participants get paid.
Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a jewelry wholesaler will be at the Bay Inn and Suites on Highway 31 South for a "Gold Party" fundraiser.
"The wholesaler buys unwanted scrap gold or silver for two to three times what a jewelry store or pawn shop would pay," Citizen’s Police Academy Vice President Violetta Smith said.
The association will receive a commission on the amount of gold bought by the wholesaler. Those funds will be used to supplement the Bay Minette Police Department through purchasing equipment and assisting with programs like the Youth Police Academy, Citizen Police Academy and Christmas Cop, among others.
Deborrah Sessions will be the wholesaler on site.
"If you have any old, outdated, broken or mismatched gold or silver items just sitting in the bottom of a jewelry box or drawer, come by to see what she'll give you for your items," Smith said. "If you're not sure what to bring, bring your whole jewelry box."
Smith said sellers do not have to bother with sorting, cleaning or detangling items, and said Sessions will buy sterling silver flatware and other sterling pieces as well.
"It's very cut and dried. Deborrah will look at your gold and/or silver, weigh it, and then makes you an offer. You're not obligated at all to sell," Smith said.
