ROBERTSDALE, Ala. – The Robertsdale Golden Bears held the Gulf Shores Dolphins to 13 first half points and cruised to a 46-30 win on Tuesday night.
Robertsdale (2-0) did not allow any Gulf Shores players to score in double figures, while three Golden Bears scored at least 10 points. Kent Langham led Robertsdale with 14 points, while Dionta Banks and Calvin Dade scored 10 each.
The Bears led 8-4 at the end of the first period, but outscored the Dolphins 15-9 in the second period.
“We started off kind of sluggish, trying to shoot the ball when we really wanted to attack the rim kind of like we did in the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarter,” Robertsdale coach Marshall Davis said. “The kids were excited for the first home game. We had a big crowd here and they wanted to shoot the ball. We just got out of what were supposed to be doing. That’s why the game was so close at the beginning. But Gulf Shores played hard and fought hard and are well coached.”
The Bears extended the lead to 33-21 in the third period. Robertsdale went to its bench with baskets from Demetrius McKinney and Alphonso Stewart along with starters Banks and Dade.
Robertsdale iced the game with a two-point basket from Banks to start the fourth period. On the Bears' next possession Langham was fouled on a made basket and hit his foul shot to give Robertsdale a 38-21 lead.
Gulf Shores (1-2) was led in scoring by Kendall Annan, who had seven points.
Robertsdale plays at Hillcrest-Evergreen on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Gulf Shores hosts the Alabama School of Math and Science on Thursday at 7:30.
