Golden Bears win Class 6A, Area 2 title

ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — The Golden Bears clinched the Class 6A, Area 2 title with a 5-1 win over Spanish Fort at Kevin Raley Field. Will Carnley (7-2) got the win on the mound going seven innings striking out five. He walked five and gave up five hits and one run. Brandon Broussard, Tyler Reeves, Evan Robertson and Carnley each had two hits and an RBI. 

Robertsdale scored 3 runs in the third inning. Broussard doubled to lead off the inning. Carnley then singled to centerfield. Tyler Reeves singled to score Broussard. Trevor Davis grounded out. Robertson had an RBI single and Reeves scored on a wild pitch.

 “We played really well tonight,” said RHS head coach Peter Bezeredi. “We were able to get some timely hits and played great defense. Will Carnley was able to keep them off the scoreboard except for the one run in the second. We had a great crowd at the game and it was an electric atmosphere.

 “It is an awesome accomplishment to win the area. We have an extremely tough five-team area. I am not sure if there is another one in the state. So to win the area is huge. I am extremely proud of my players and our program.”

Trevor Davis (3-1) got the win. He went 6 innings with 7 strikeouts. He walked five and scattered six hits. Carnley had three hits while Broussard and Trevor Corte has two hits each. Davis also had two RBIs. Robertsdale scored 7 runs in the top of the 3rd inning.

Robertsdale finished the Area 2 league run at the top to pick up home-field advantage and will host the Area 1 runner-up.

Baldwin County (6-3) needed a split with Daphne to advance to the postseason and bounced back to lock in the No. 2 spot Friday night. Spanish Fort finished third to miss the post season with a 5-3 league mark.

Bayside sweeps area series with Excel

DAPHNE—Bayside Academy won over Class 3A, Area 1 rival Cottage Hill Christian Academy Friday.  With the win the No. 1 ranked Admirals claimed the Area 1 title and will host the Area 2 runner up in the first round of the playoffs.

Class 7A, Area 2 

Pirates win tie-breaker with Foley

FAIRHOPE— Peyton Galich pitched a 10-0, no hitter shutout for Fairhope in the opener over Foley.  Mason Lockhart was 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs. Philip Martin was 4-for-4 with a double. The Lions then came back to win game two 8-7. Trailing by one run, David Hendrick came to the plate and homered, scoring Casey Gattenio for the lead. Hendrick racked up three RBIs on one hit for the Lions. Gattenio went 3-for-4, drove in one and scored four runs. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the fifth and seventh innings.

The Pirates took game three 3-2 for the Class 7A Area 2 win and improved to 4-0 in league play. Hendrick had a solo home run for Foley.
