BAY MINETTE — A Spanish Fort man will spend the next 15 years in jail for a January 2012 shooting incident.

In April, the jury deliberated only briefly before returning a guilty verdict against Tyson Taiwian Goodman in Baldwin County Circuit Court. On Thursday, Goodman, 31, was sentenced to 15 years for the discharge of gun into an occupied vehicle and five years for the second-degree assault.

Both sentences are to run concurrently. In addition, Goodman was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and $250 to the Alabama Crime Victim’s Compensation Fund.

“I am pleased that this defendant has been held to account and will serve a significant prison sentence for his crimes,” said Attorney General Luther Strange.

On Jan. 2, 2012, three acquaintances of Goodman were backing out of his driveway. He fired into the vehicle six times with a .38-caliber handgun. Four of the gunshots struck Kyle Tyree of Perdido. The two other men in the car escaped without injury.

Nine days later, it was Goodman who was riddled with bullets. Around midnight on Jan. 11, 2012, suspects broke into Goodman’s Brown Lane home. Deputies responding tot he incident found Goodman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola in stable condition.

An hour later, three black males brandishing a handgun robbed a convenience store in Loxley. They fled the scene in a white Mercury Marquis that matched the description in the earlier shooting incident.

Baldwin County deputies and Bay Minette police officers stopped the car shortly thereafter. A search of the car revealed clothing that was consistent with both cases. Three men and a female juvenile were arrested there. Two other suspects were arrested later that afternoon in Mobile.
