Goodwill Gulf Coast to celebrate grand opening of new Foley facility

Posted

Goodwill Gulf Coast will open its new 50,000-square-foot facility at 200 E. Azalea Ave. with a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23.

The Foley location will house a retail store, opportunity center, outlet store and donation center, making it the only site in the nonprofit’s 10-county service area to feature all four operations under one roof.

“Having a facility of this size and scope in Foley will help us provide more of our programs and services to benefit individuals and families living in this part of Baldwin County,” said Frank Harkins, president and CEO of Goodwill Gulf Coast, in the release. “This will be the only facility in our 10-county service area that combines all four types of our stores and centers in one convenient location.”

The retail store and opportunity center will open with the ceremony, while the outlet store is scheduled to launch later this fall according to the release. The donation center began accepting goods earlier this summer to help stock the store.

Construction of the new site took one year and involved Randall Paulson Architects, development partner Piedmont Companies and Rogers & Willard as the general contractor.

The Foley expansion brings Goodwill Gulf Coast’s operations to 11 retail stores, two outlet stores, 10 stand-alone donation centers and six opportunity centers across southwest Alabama and northwest Florida. The nonprofit reports that 90 cents of every dollar it spends goes directly to programs and services such as job training, placement and support for children, youth and parents.

Per the release, in fiscal year 2024, Goodwill Gulf Coast served 14,474 people through more than 23,000 services ranging from workforce development and early childhood support to medical, financial, emergency and disability assistance.
